About

UCARES is a group of organized volunteers that provide communications in our community using Amateur Radio. They provide training to their members to help prepare members for assisting in supporting and leadership roles. Ultimatly, these trainings help to also prepare to provide any needed communication in an emergency or other community event.

Certification

UCARES provides specific training called the “Levels of Certification” that provide a framework for equipment and training that help its members learn and prepare to help in any role needed. There are 4 levels, as well as a family focussed certification level. You can view the PDF requirements for the levels of certification on their website. The 4 levels can be worked on concurrently, but turned in in order. It is up to the member to email their completed forms to [email protected] upon completion of each level.

Membership

There is no membership fee to join UCARES. If you would like to be added to the email list, send an email to [email protected] and they will add you to the email list.

Nets, Activities, and Events

Activities

Monthly UCARES holds 2 in-person trainings: Interface Meetings and New Ham Night. Interface meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of the month at 1900 (7pm) at the Sheriff’s office North Annex Training Room. New Ham Night is also held at the same location. Sometimes the dates change, so check the calendar. Other events are held throughout the year for other events such as Summer Field Day.

Events

UCARES supports a number of events throughout the year. The best place to find their events list is directly on their website. You can sign up to volunteer at these events by filling out the Google Sheet for the desired event.

If you are new or otherwise nervous, UCARES offers the Shadow Member role where you can be paired with another volunteer to help you learn the ropes.

Nets

During the Nets there are 3 main Net Duties: Net Control (NCS), Assistant Net Control (ANCS), and a Training Position. The Online Check-In Record below is where NCS and ANCS can record the check-ins during the net. The Net Script provides training and the major top level items that the Leadership team would like to ensure are discussed during the net.

Tuesdays 2100 (9pm) Weekly

Weekly nets are held on some of the repeaters in Utah County. Usually those repeaters are the linked repeaters 147.34 (+100.0) and 147.28 (+141.3)

Checkin by sending an email via Winlink to UCARESNET with the following information: call sign, first name, city, state, and mode(HF, VHF, or Telnet).

This is a new net that is being tried out. More details will be released as the net evolves.
